Level of Connectivity

Review a bit of Internet history (way way back to 2000) and determine your level of Internet Connectivity. See how your connection to Internet fits into the connectivity scale. Make a note of this in your portfolio only--do not submit your level of connectivity in your email assignment message or a separate message. The information in the link may be dated but it still applies today.

My level of connectivity: Level 4 ADSL service provided by Telus.  We connect to this service through our phone line using a D-Link DSL 300G ADSL Modem, and a DSL “filter” to prevent our telephone from interfering with the Internet connection and vice versa.  We use an “always on” connection using G-lite modulation allowing for approx. 1.5 Megabytes per second of download speed, and 512 Kilobytes per second of Upload speed.  Here is a screen shot from the official product website for our modem.

From there, our ADSL Modem connects to a LINKSYS® 2.4 GHz. 802.11b Wireless-B Broadband Router.  (Level 6 connectivity). The router turns the DSL into a wireless broadband signal so my other two roommates can pick up the Internet on their laptops.  My computer is plugged directly into an Ethernet port to receive the signal directly.
